Programme schedule for World Opera Day, 2022
Opera on the streets
The Teatro de la Maestranza joins the Seville City Council initiative to programme an event to celebrate this year’s World Opera Day in a very famous public square. The Teatro de la Maestranza Chorus will take part by singing 5 great moments from the national and international operatic repertory.
- Gypsy Chorus, Il Trovatore by Verdi
- Mazurka of the Umbrellas, Luisa Fernanda by Moreno Torroba
- Va pensiero, Nabucco by Verdi
- The voices of Carmen by Bizet
The Teatro de la Maestranza introduces Opera Power, a series of podcasts to be broadcast over YouTube during the 22/23 season, made for, and by, young people. The first episode focuses on World Opera Day 2022 and Roberto Devereux by G.Donizetti that will be performed on November 8, 10 and 12 at the Maestranza. Presented by Sevillian scriptwriter and actor Adrián Pino and singer Julia Rey, it will feature interviews with some of the principals of the cast, along with the presence of a very special surprise guest. The idea is to bring opera closer to young people thanks to informative, fresh and dynamic content that better connects with their inclinations and preferences.
Opera Unboxing Video
An audiovisual piece linked to the theme put forward by Opera Europa will be performed where a young woman will recreate, in a light- hearted fashion, the unboxing of the "Neophyte Kit". This institutional box from the Maestranza will contain the basic essentials for going to an opera for the first time. The video can be seen on its own but will also be a section of the podcast.
Open rehearsal Roberto Devereux
On October 25, starting at 6:00 p.m., we will open the rehearsal of the opera Roberto Devereux by G. Donizetti to the general public. This is a Welsh National Opera production, with musical direction by Yves Abel, stage direction by Alessandro Talevi and the lead voices of Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Yolanda Auyanet and Ismael Jordi. For the curious this is an opportunity to discover all the secrets of the creation and rehearsal process.
