ANNA BONITATIBUS, mezzosoprano
ORQUESTA BARROCA DE SEVILLA
Concertmaster-conductor, Andoni Mercero
18 January, 2020
The performance lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes, including one interval.
Baroque Latin passion with the OBS and Anna Bonitatibus
The musical excellence of the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla (OBS) and the Latin passion of the Italian mezzosoprano Anna Bonitatibus combine in “Monólogos”, the new production by Bonitatibus, a vibrant recital with instrumental and vocal works by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), W. A. Mozart (1756-1791), G. Rossini (1792-1868) and N. A. Zingarelli (1752-1837), all composers who have produced powerful coloratura arias.
As she has already shown in previous recordings, such as “En travesti” (2018) or her original exploration of the composer she calls “my beloved Rossini”, “Un rendez-vous” (2010), Bonitatibus knows very well how to create programmes which are both interesting to musicologists and exciting for general audiences.
Under the leader of the orchestra and conductor Andoni Mercero, the OBS returns to the Teatro de la Maestranza with yet another splendid musical encounter where the Seville orchestra -well established as one of the leading Baroque ensembles on the international scene-, creates a dialogue with some of the greatest singers and most important figures of the Baroque music world.
Anna Bonitatibus is undoubtedly one of these. Winner of the International Opera Awards 2015 and with over 70 roles in her repertoire, this mezzo from Basilicata likes to describe herself as an “antidiva” and is fond of creating unusual, fun and enjoyable shows, in which she often takes on “breeches” roles. Her voice has attracted the attention of conductors of the stature of Muti, Mackerras, Jacobs, Minkowski, Dantone, Christie, and the list goes on -masters who have insisted on her presence on the world’s greatest stages, such as La Scala in Milan, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Vienna Staatsoper and the Salzburg Festival.
She is an activist for Baroque music, committed to the recovery of musical heritage through her own publishing house, Consonarte Vox in Musica. The presence of Bonitatibus and the OBS is a twofold guarantee of excellence, passion and vocal expression in a recital which is sure to demonstrate the contemporary appeal of Baroque and Classical music.
Her vocal technique, praised by critics for her mastery of canto legato and her agility; her passion on stage, intellectual curiosity and active commitment to the recovery and dissemination of forgotten musical heritage, have made Bonitatibus a point of reference in European Baroque.
