Antonio Gades sets the Maestranza on fire

On a stage setting inundated by beauty, plasticity and tension, the Compañía Antonio Gades, with the Artistic Direction of Stella Arauzo, who was its first principal, dances Fuego, of Antonio Gades and Carlos Saura inspired by El amor brujo, Manuel de Falla, this creative partnership gave Spanish culture such emblematic and identity works such as this or Carmen.

By this point in time, Fuego glows; it is the exponent of the purest “Gades style” captivating the Parisian audience in 1989 and commissioned by the Teatre Châtelet. For different personal circumstances of the dancer and choreographer, it was not seen in Spain until the Fundación Antonio Gades finally recouped it on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the dancer’s death.

Today, a story of mental alienation narrated in a dreamlike and dark atmosphere continues to engage the public for its strength, stylisation and startling staging Considered a classic by the critics, Fuego assembles an immense talent. The end result will electrify the audience.
