50 years -in 2021- after its theatrical premiere in Chicago, and 45 years since its film version in 1978, Grease, with its cotton candy, contagious energy, and rotating hips in motion, left a trail of good and catchy songs, unforgettable choreography and a glorification of a certain type of American youth that has become part of the big encyclopedia of contemporary popular culture.

Grease. El Musical takes us back us to the full splendour of Rydell High school and the death rattles of the United States at the end of the 50s, prior to the hippy upheaval of the 60s. The musical is an irresistible and brilliant spectacle by SOM Produce, the most important Spanish production company of musicals: its adaptation of Billy Elliot was a triumph. A high impact musical full of acrobatic choreographies which re-enacts the feeling of the film. Brimming over with vitality and charm.

Between December 13 and 17, there will be 8 performances of this engaging family show. It will bring together the young spectators who admired it in 1978 on the big screen with the adolescents of today who confront and enjoy the same timeless questions as then…love, friendship. Grease is back. Or, did it ever leave?

Grease. The Musical

Created in 1971 by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, its name comes from a working-class youth subculture during the 1950s whose members were known as the “greasers”. The first interpreters of the musical were amateur actors. However, the energy transmitted, along with engaging songs, was an immediate and enormous success among the spectators. Throughout the many different international versions, Grease has been performed by stars the likes of Richard Gere, Billy Porter, Rosie O ́Donell, Linda Blair, Sheena Easton, John Travolta, Olivia Newton John, Brooke Shields, Patrick Swayze, Jon Secada and many others besides. In a survey in 2003, it stood out as the best musical of all times.
