The glory and tragedy of the Beautiful Otero

She was the queen of the Belle Époque, muse of painters such as Renoir or Toulouse-Lautrec, seductress of kings, and once her glory days were over, died in poverty because the only love which she could not control was gambling. Carolina Otero, better known as the La Bella Otero, was born poor but beautiful. Resourcefulness and sensual dancing transformed her into the first Spaniard artist who was applauded internationally.

Now the National Ballet of Spain, under the direction of Rubén Olmo, dances the story, a mix of glory and drama, of how a woman whose origins were poverty and abuse found success. La Bella Otero looks at the other side of glory, the incapacity to love, solitude and ambition. An operatic ballet in large format, staring Patricia Guerrero (born in Granada) as the guest artist, with fantastic costumes to recreate the Paris of the "Belle Époque" where the Bella Otero reigned.
