40 years of lighting up Flamenco

The grand dame of flamenco celebrates 40 years as a soloist on the stage. And Carmen Linares, “the professor of flamenco song”, marks the moment as always: working, taking risks, committed to an art form which she, together with Morente or Camarón, elevated from the catacombs. This, when a cantaora –without being a gypsy, or part of any flamenco dynasty, or having been born in the inner circles of the genre- was a complete rarity. And an enormous undertaking which has been recognised by awards -among others- such as the “Premio Nacional de Música” (National Music Prize) and the “Medalla de las Bellas Artes” (Medal of Fine Arts)

On her celebratory tour, Carmen Linares invites an artist friend to each of her concerts. In Sevilla, this artist will be Miguel Poveda, the star of a generation for whom Carmen Linares was the master. The most important success for Carmen Linares is her 40 years of singing and being a guiding light for the new generations.
