The voice that captivates
In the space of only a few years, the voice of Juan Diego Flórez evolved from impressing at school events with La flor de la canela accompanying himself on the guitar, to singing in the Coro Nacional del Perú, and from there, to study at the Curtis Institute of Philadelphia. As has happened with many other artists, he had the opportunity to shine because of the unexpected. In his case it was at the Rossini Festival of Pesaro; the 23-year-old tenor was asked to substitute his colleague Bruce Ford at the last moment in the leading role of Matilde di Shabran. He became a celebrity overnight.
The rest is the story, with more or less detail, that every fan knows. All the predictions made from an early age, first by his maestros and then by the specialized critics, have come true. By his own merit and popular acclaim, Juan Diego Flórez has become one of the greatest lyric voices of all time. Wherever he performs, whatever he sings, the sublime voice of the Peruvian tenor is irresistible for any audience, no matter the level of exigency.
With the complicity of his devoted Vincenzo Scalera, Juan Diego Flórez returns to the Teatro de la Maestranza. There will be some who take the opportunity to compare the performance of 2025 with his recital back in 2018. Since then, his repertoire and voice have matured. The superb diction, natural grace, dramatic fibre and that enormous generosity which characterizes the singer will return for a memorable performance in Sevilla. If you have never enjoyed a live concert by Juan Diego Flórez, this is the moment.
