Vocal fantasies of Antonio Vivaldi

Incisive, captivating, of a musical fantasia and extraordinary vocalism, the operas of the great Antonio Vivaldi have returned to opera houses after two centuries in oblivion. Devoted to the beauty of its melodies and its vocal artistry -which does not take second place to Handel-, amateurs of Baroque music have enjoyed more than a decade of a real “lyrical resurrection” of the Prete Rosso.

Divas like Cecilia Bartoli have acknowledged this beautiful and complex wealth of operas of astonishing craftsmanship. The latest to return to the scene after more than 250 years in the shadows is Argippo, a story which takes place in the court of a maharaja that Vivaldi presented in Prague in 1730.

Recently reconstructed, Argippo is a mature work. Fabio Biondi conducts his ensemble Europa Galante with a wonderful cast headed by the impressive mezzo virtuosa Vivica Genaux who returns to the stage of the Maestranza.

Opera in concert. Libretto by Domenico Lalli. Premiere in Prague, 1730.

Due to the new regulations adopted by the health authorities on March 25, this show has been canceled and will be broadcast via streaming. We will inform as soon as possible of the channel from which the broadcast will take place.
