The Most Beautiful Singing

Bel canto, which many considered had come to an end after Bellini, has been in a process of reincarnation in the last centuries. Composers who succeeded the one from Catania were accused of corrupting the legacy they had received by substituting beauty for expression. In fact, what they did was expand an existing framework to offer the public new stimuli and emotions. Luckily, Verdi, Puccini and company could always count on singers who were prepared to follow on their musical adventures. In our times, versatility is a virtue of the great voices, ones who can shine in the most diverse styles. Anna Netrebko is one of them.

The Russian soprano rose to fame at a young age when she sang Mozart and Verdi in Salzburg. She continues to demonstrate her wide repertory and the treasure of a voice which has changed over the course of time and has incorporated new roles. With the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla conducted by Marco Armiliato and accompanied by tenor Brian Jagde and baritone George Petean, both of whom are specialists in Verdi and Verista roles, one of the great divas of our days returns to the Teatro de la Maestranza after a memorable recital in February 2025. One of those evenings of singing which leaves a lasting mark.
