Cita en Maestranza
October, 8 p.m.
- Hall: Main Auditorium
A fusion of Mexican Rancheras and Flamenco Bulerías
Songwriter José Alfredo Jiménez keeps flamenco in check with bulerías, María Toledo sings the very famous ranchera El Rey. Her version is not only total cutting edge but is top of the charts: Number 1 on iTunes España.
The single is just a taste of the new album, recorded in Jerez de la Frontera; it has a Mexican fragrance which singer-composer María Toledo -the first woman to sing flamenco accompanying herself on the piano- has cherished for some time now.
Having received various Grammy nominations and with that magnetism of Mexico, this new work by Maria Toledo distils passion in her interpretations of Cielito lindo, Te solté la rienda or Me gustas mucho. With such passion that the sceptre of a Rey (King) was demanding the presence of a Queen.
