Carmen at 42

The Carmen of Antonio Gades and Carlos Saura is proof of success over time. It has now been 42 years since both creators took their version of the myth to the stage and added that pinch of flamenco to George Bizet’s opera (which has hit 150 years) with Sevilla at heart. The fiercely independent Carmen, born in Spain and taken to France by Merimée, misunderstood in a world of men and pushed to a tragic destiny, carries on. She causes a sensation with audiences all over the world.

The staging, true to the original conception of its creators, has a splendid cast with nothing to envy of the original staring Cristina Hoyos and Laura del Sol. This Carmen is one of the most long- standing and international works in the Spanish repertoire; in 2025 it is still on tour -recently in the legendary Sala Pleyel of París with 10.000 spectators- in the hands of new generations. A masterpiece that continues to leave its mark.
