By the Light of the Young Stars

To update and contemporize dance, it is necessary to give an opportunity to talent. This is what José Carlos Martínez did in 2022, when he was named Dance Director of the Paris Opera Ballet, a company with a history of more than 300 years. By creating a troupe of young dancers, he was strengthening the values of the youth academy associated with the Opéra national de Paris. At the same time, this ballet school opens the door to young dancers from around the world who are eager to have their name linked to the institution.

The Junior Ballet, an incubator for young talent, has been reality since October 2024. The varied repertoire includes classic titles and contemporary creations: its 24 members between the ages of 18 and 25, will perform a selection of this eclectic spirit at the Teatro de la Maestranza.

On the programme, three cherished names such as colossal Rudolf Nureyev based on Petipa (Don Quichotte Suite), Maurice Béjart (Cantata 51 on a cantata by Bach), and George Balanchine of the Ballet School (Allegro Brillante, based on Tchaikovsky) combine with more contemporary choreographies like that of Annabelle López Ochoa. An opportunity to witness the birth of future stars and witness the result of talent and hard work.
