For tradition to flourish, one needs to renew it regularly. The six artists who come together at the Maestranza are splinters from a common trunk, convinced that fresh air is what sits well with flamenco. De tal palo (“A chip off the old block”) is a show where the combination of piano, guitar, song and dance work wonders, splendidly performed by indisputable maestros.
Dorantes is the creator of the piano soloist in flamenco, transferring the voice to his instrument. Farruquito, grandson of Farruco, has shown the world the quality of his artistic lineage since he was 4 years old. Ismael de la Rosa “El Bola” soaked up the purest of Flamenco in the Triana neighbourhood of Seville where he was born; and his collaboration with artists like Spanish rapper C. Tangana is added value. José del Tomate, the son of Tomatito is from Almeria on the SE coast of Spain. His career as a guitarist began when he was 13, since then he continues to enrich that tradition.
Karime Amaya is the great niece of “La Capitana”, dancer Carmen Amaya, whose memory she has honoured throughout an impeccable career. The youngest member of the “Los Sordera” dynasty, Lela Soto, displays the essence and future of flamenco in her voice. A family celebration that revolves around a shared legacy.
