Eternal youth

When you have a chance, connect to internet and write “Argerich/Dutoit” in the search engine. It will not be difficult to find various videos that show the pianist and orchestra conductor together, it really does not matter which one you choose. In each one there is an unnameable quality. A je ne sais quoi that distinguishes the greatest performers, letting off sparks that even the least most subdued spectator will perceive.

In one of these videos the pair (at that time their relationship was only artistic) add a new dimension to Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, that mistreated piece we have heard so many times, but which has a special meaning for both artists. Watch these videos, or if you prefer, simply listen to them. We could call it chemistry, or one of the secondary effects of being young forever. Whatever, the music is bathed in loveliness, that value added that is missing in so many interpretations.

This Tchaikovsky concerto was immortalized on video at some moment in 1975, in other words, 50 years ago. Since then, Martha Argerich and Charles Dutoit have continued to exhibit that same complicity, enthusiasm, a shared commitment. Their eternal youth comes to the Teatro de la Maestranza in a concert with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla (The Royal Seville Symphony orchestra), one which will be talked about for a very long time. No one will want to miss it.
